Hilary Maketh Disappearance

Hilary Clinton goes to a primary school in New York to talk to the children. After her talk, she offers a question-and-answer time.

One little boy raises his hand. The Senator asks him what his name is. "Kenneth," he replies. "And what is your question, Kenneth?"

"Actually, I have three questions:
"First, whatever happened to the medical health care plan you were paid to develop during your husband's eight years as President?
"Second, why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office?
"Third, whatever happened to all those things you took when you left the White House?"

Just then, the bill rings for recess. Hilary informs the kids they will continue after recess. When they resume, Hilary says, "OK, where were we? Oh, that's right, question time. Who has a question?"

A different little boy puts his hand up. Hilary asks him what his name is. "My name is Larry." "And what is your question, Larry?" she asks.

"Really, I have five questions:
"First, whatever happened to the medical health care plan you were paid to develop during your husband's eight years as President?
"Second, why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office?
"Third, whatever happened to all those things you took when you left the White House?
"Fourth, why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early?
"Fifth, what happened to Kenneth?"

A mechanic who worked out of his home had a dog named Mace. Mace had a bad habit of eating all the grass in the mechanic's lawn, so the mechanic had to keep Mace inside. The grass eventually became overgrown.

One day the mechanic was working on a car in his backyard when he dropped his wrench, losing it in the tall grass. He couldn't find it for the life of him, so he decided to call it a day.

That night, Mace escaped from the house and ate all the grass in the backyard. The next morning, the mechanic went outside and saw his wrench, glinting in the sunlight. Realizing what had happened, he looked up to the heavens and sang out proudly:

"A grazing Mace, how sweet the hound, that saved a wrench for me!"

The Lad Has All the Answers

Little Bruce and Jenny are only 10 years old, but they just know that they are in love. So one day they decide they want to get married. Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand. Bruce bravely walks up to him and says, "Mr. Smith, Jenny and I are in love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage."

Thinking that this is just the cutest thing, Mr. Smith replies, "Well, Bruce, you are only 10. Where will you two live?"

Without taking even a moment to think about it, Bruce replies, "In Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can fit in there nicely."

Still thinking this is just adorable, Mr. Smith says with a huge grin, "Okay, then, how will you live? You're not old enough to get a job. You'll need to support Jenny."

Again, Bruce instantly replies, "Our allowance. Jenny gets $5 a week and I make $10 a week. That's about $60 a month and that should do us just fine."

By this time, Mr. Smith is a little shocked that Bruce has put so much thought into this. He thinks for a moment trying to come up with something that Bruce won't have an answer to.

"Well, Bruce, it seems like you have got everything all figured out. I just have one more question for you. What will you do if the two of you have little ones of your own?"

Bruce just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Well, we've been lucky so far."

Mr. Smith no longer thinks the little shit is adorable.

The boy looks, and says, "Well lookee here, a turkey done roosted under my arm."

The game warden said, "Now look, you know turkey season is closed, so whatever you do to that turkey, I'm going to do to you. If you break its leg, I'm gonna break your leg. If you break his wing, I'll break your arm. Whatever you do to that bird, I'm going to do to you. So, what are you gonna do with him?"

When four of Santa's elves got sick (click on "Merry Xmas" to see why they were sick), the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the pre-Christmas pressure. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth, and two others had jumped the fence and he had no idea where they were. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground, and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. Just then the doorbell rang, and Santa, even more irritated, marched to the door, yanked it open -- and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where do you want me to stick it?"

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

It was the end of the day when he parked his police van in front of the station. As he gathered his equipment, his K-9 partner, Jake, was barking and he saw a little boy staring at him. On a Translatlantic flight, a plane passes through a severe storm. The turbulence is often, and things go from bad to worse. Suddenly, one wing is struck by lightning.

One pretty woman loses it. Screaming, she stands up in the front of the plane and yells, "Im too young to die." Then she says, "If I'm going to die I want my last minutes on earth to be memorable. Is there anyone on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN?"

For a moment there is silence. Everyone has forgotten his own peril. They all stare, eyes riveted, at the desperate woman in the front of the plane.

Then a Wyoming cowboy stands up in the rear of the plane. He is handsome, well-built, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He starts to walk slowly up the aisle, unbuttoning his short, slowly. No one moves. He removes his shirt. Muscles ripple across his chest.

She gasps. He whispers, "Iron this. Then get me a beer."

The Pickled Fickled Finger of Fate

Sometimes I start out writing a b**g and forget what it was supposed to be about. You've never done that. Me, I start out writing about winter squash and first thing you know I'm fishing in Mud Puppy Lake.

Here's a persample: I found this youtube thing the other day and captured it for my b**g. Put it where you see it now -- and promptly forgot what it was all about. It could have been about finding long-necky dinosaurs in Montana, but I'm pretty sure it's not. It, more likely, was about dung beetles in Tumbuktu, but I'm not sure.

And then suddenly it dawns upon me! It is about The Finger. And not just any Finger, but The Deadly Fickle Finger of Fate!

Let's look in and see. Maybe it's not so bad.......

In 1886, Mikele Mebembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University in Illinois. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with his right leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mikele approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot. There, he found a large piece of wood embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Mikele worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Mikele stood frozen, thinking of nothing other than being trampled.

Eventually, the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away. Mikele never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty-one years later, Mikele was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mikele and his son were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Mikele, lifted its right foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times, then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mikele couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Mikele summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped his trunk around one of Mikele's legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same elephant.

The Right Wing TV Preacher was in the shower. Although he is very strict about the one man-one woman rules, he occasionally felt the need to exercise the right wrist, and this was one of those occasions. Just as he reached a climax, he saw a photographer taking a picture of his sanctimonious seed flying through the air.

"Hold on a minute," said the Preacher. "You can't print that. You'll destroy the reputation of my TV Church."

"This is my lottery win," said the photographer. "I'll be financially secure for life."

So the Preacher offered the buy the camera. After lots of negotiation, they eventually arrived at a price of two million dollars.

The Preacher then dried himself off, dressed, and headed off with his new camera. He met his housekeeper, who spotted the camera.

"That looks like a really good camera," she said. "How much did it cost you?"

"Two million dollars," said the Preacher.

1. When I got hungry as a child I would fill a salt-shaker with sugar and spend half a day lapping it down. This is how I became so sweet.

2. At about age 30 I had my first Sweet and Sour Pork. This is how I became so acidic.

3. At about age 8 I memorized a bunch of gum ads ("Gimme a pack of Beeman's Pepsin chewing gum, please." "Double your pleasure, double your fun." This is how I learned to appreciate Black Jack gum.

4. I was about 12 when a few of us crawled into the Horse Caves, northeast of Bend, OR. Scary place. I got out. I never went back. This is how I became a fraidy-cat.

5. Television came to Albany, Oregon, where I was working, in about 1955. It was in a bar, in the Albany Hotel. This is how I learned to go to bars. In hotels.

6. In 1958 I hiked 6 miles, mostly uphill, to Firecamp Lakes in Oregon. First, I called the Game Commission to find out if there were fish in the Firecamp Lakes. I was assured there were fish. This is why I don't believe anything I hear.

7. I am now 77 and have never done any yoga. When I was young, I was able to tie myself into a figure 8. This is why I look like a pretzel. That's pretty weird, I'd say.

"In honor of the holy season," Pete said, "you must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and came up with a cigarette lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle," he said.

The second man reached into his pocket and came out with a set of keys. "They're bells."

St. Pete said, "You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow, and asked, "Just what do those symbolize?"

Now, everybody knows egg is an allergen, and so it must be explicity listed as an ingredient somewhere on the one-and-three-eighths-inch-wide cap.

Warren Knight protested: "The cap says Egg Nog!"

Big deal. The inspector told the Maine Department of Agriculture all egg nog on store shelves -- about 400 gallons at that point -- had to be recalled to protect people with allergies who don't know there is egg in egg nog.

The Angel asks Dolly if there's some particular reason why she should be admitted to Heaven.

Dolly takes off her top and says, "Look at these, the most perfect breasts God ever created. I'm sure it will please the angels to be able to see them every day, for eternity."

The Angel thanks Dolly, then asks Her Majesty the same question.

The Queen takes a bottle of Perrier out of her purse, shakes it up, and gargles. Then she spits into a toilet and pulls the lever.

The Angel says, "OK, your majesty, you may go in."

Dolly is outraged, and asks, "What was that all about? I show you two of God's own perfect creations and you turn me down. She spits into a commode and gets in. Would you explain that to me?"

Big Bird

Before I became a sicknik we went to the Oregon Coast. En route we passed by the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve at Hillsboro to see this one-of-a-kind: the nest of a Bald Eagle.

I pictured the Scamp here for perspective's sake (the nest is the one with the sticks. Ho ho har de har har). The nest was in a three-pronged tree, part of which had fallen and the rest was due to go. So the local electric company chopped the tree off, lowered this to the ground, and gave it to the refuge. A permit was obtained from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Here's the power company in action. The entire contraption weighs 3,000 pounds.

It is the only known Bald Eagle nest in the entire Noo Nited States.

And, yes, the Momma and Poppa eagles still nest in the area. Hooray for wildlife.

Whut Do You Know About Dat?

More sick-nik news: I am able to visit your b**g, but commenting wears me out. I visited everybody on my b**groll Saturday. I can write a post, although it takes a long time. Very long....

+ + + + + + + +

If you are the sort of person who uses "words" like whut and dat, you need some finishing school. Ol' Hoss comes to the rescue.

1. Write a short sentence, such as "Whut makes dat go round basswards, Me Poppa?"
2. Send this, along with your credit card number, bank account number and current paycheck (if any) to Hoss at OldScrewU.com.
3. Receive in return an edited version of your sentence. In this case, an amended version would read: "HOW COME makes THAT go round basswards, Me Poppa?"

Repeat as necessary.

Satisfaction guaranteed, as always.

Only in Thailand...

Only in India...

Only in China...

Only in America...

Only in America do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America do people order double cheesburgers, large fries, and a diet cola.

Only in America do banks leave the doors open but chain the pens to the desk.

Only in America do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in our driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America do we use the word "politics" to describe the process so well: In Latin, "Poli" meaning "many," and "tics" meaning "bloodsucking creatures."

Only in America do we have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Hang Me Loose, Moose!

If it hadn't been for the picture, the tale of how this moose got up there would not be believable.

"This happened near Fairbanks, Alaska. Some workers were laying new power cables, which were strung on the ground for miles. The moose are rutting right now and are very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables. When the men, miles away, began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up too. The workers noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground. The moose was a 60-inch bull -- who was slightly peeved."

Dear Hoss:

I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work, leaving my husband in the house watching the TV, as usual. I hadn't gone more than 100 feet down the road when my engine conked out. I walked back home to get my husband's help -- but when I got home I couldn't believe my eyes! He was parading in front of the wardrobe mirror dressed up in my underwear and high-heel shoes, and he was wearing my makeup.

I am 32 and my husband is 34, and we have been married for 12 years. When I confronted him, he tried to make out that he had dressed in my lingerie because he couldn't find his own underwear. But when I asked him about the makeup, he broke down and admitted that he'd been wearing my clothes for six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him.

He was let go from his job six months ago and says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. I don't feel I can get through to him anymore. Can you please help?

Mrs. Sheila Usk of Tuscaloosa

Dear Mrs. Tusk:

A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking to see there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the jubilee clips hiolding the vacuum pipes onto the inlet manifold.

If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the ejectors.

I hope this helps.

Hoss Pays Off

A few days ago, I ran this picture and asked you readers to give me a caption. Several people played along, while a bunch of you
confessed you are not funny. Me too, but I know funny when I see it, so I reckoned I could judge this contest as good as anybody else. So I did. But I am not good at splitting hairs, so we have three winners of University of Oregon Charging Duck sweatshirts (in black!). For various reasons.

First, I liked this caption by Shane, one of them England blokes:

"In the distance, Roger had spotted the rare Brown Pelican. Now if he could quickly load the camera and move those infernal walkers, the next shot might be worth $200." Pretty nifty, huh?

But Shane liked the caption produced by Raggedy:

"I wasted my last shot on the penis log, and Elvis and Sasquatch show up. Aargh!" Well, I like it too.

Also, there is an honorable mention for Jana, on account of she said the magic words: "It's cold. I need a sweatshirt." I am a sucker for pretty girls.

Now then, speaking of sweatshirts, here is Ol' Hoss modeling the shirt he is sending to these three people. The Donald Duck on the shirt is licensed from Disney. The word "Oregon" appears on the Duck's hat, but you can't see it from here. Or wherever you are.

I hope the winners look as good in it as I do. But don't hold your breath.

All of his life, Ole had heard stories of an amazing family tradition. It seems that his father, grandfather and great-grandfather had all been able to walk on water on their 21st birthday. On that day, they'd walk across the lake to the boat club for their first legal drink.

When Ole's 21st birthday rolled around, he and his pal, Corky, took a boat out to the middle of the lake. Ole stepped out of the boat and nearly drowned! Corky just managed to pull him to safety.

Furious and confused, Ole went to see his grandmother. "Gramma, it's my 21st birthday, so why can't I walk across the lake like my father, his father, and his father before him?"

Nobody stole from anybody, and nobody gave anything back that they stole. Nothing bad happened. Nothing good happened.

Here are some advisories for living the good life:

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

Have you noticed that since everyone has a camcorder these days, no one talks about seeing UFOs like they used to?

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink whatever comes out"?

Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there? I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta its butt."

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?

Why does your OB-GYN leave the room so you can get undressed if he's going to look up there anyway?

Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?

Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
